Buying the book

The book is available from a number of different sources, and in a number of different formats, depending on how you want to read it, and where you live.

Paperback

The 5″ x 8″ paperback (ISBN 978-4-990-51650-5), replaces the older edition (fixing a few typos, and a slightly more pocket-friendly format).

Hardcover

There’s a hardback edition. Its ISBN is 978-4-9905165-2-9 if you want to order it. RRP is $29.99 (but Amazon and B&N have both discounted it pretty heavily – Amazon Canada is really cheap). Currently available from:

You can also pop into the Blue Parrot in Takadanobaba in Tokyo and buy the first edition. And, of course, you can always order the latest from your local bookstore: ISBN 978-4-990-51650-5

Electronic editions

All electronic editions of Beneath Gray Skies are priced at $5.99. As far as I know, there is no copy-protection (DRM) on any of these except for the one available from Apple. 55% of the book is available for free download in all formats from Smashwords.

PDF

PDFs can be read on almost any kind of electronic device, but the text doesn’t flow around the screen – it’s not ideal for some devices.

  • The PDF from Smashwords is a simplified (without fancy fonts) version.
  • You can also order a PDF of the hardback edition from me (I will deliver by e-mail). This has much nicer formatting and prints prettily onto A4 or US letter paper. Click here to order.

Kindle

Download the Kindle version to your computer from here and then transfer to your Kindle via USB. I don’t currently know a way of transferring to the Kindle application on iPhone. Use the ePub version (below) for iPhone.

ePub (Stanza – iPhone / Adobe Digital Reader)

It looks horrible on the desktop Stanza, but really nice on the iPhone version. Adobe Digital Reader is pretty cool too. Two versions (the result of two different conversion processes):

  • Older version -split into chapters, but missing a little of the formatting – transfer from the desktop Stanza to the iPhone
  • One large chunk of text, slightly nicer formatting – downloadable directly from the iPhone
  • From Barnes and Noble as an ebook.
  • If you have an iPad and a US iTunes Store account, it’s also available for the iPad (sorry, I can’t give you an address there) – I have no iPad or US iTunes Store account).

Others

These are all available from here. I haven’t tested them all – if you have problems, you should let me know.

  • LRF (Sony Reader)
  • PRC (Palm)
  • Online HTML and JavaScript

I think that covers almost everything. Let me know if there’s a format I’ve missed out.
